Seven Years In: Reflections

August 1st, 2017 by Lindsey Mathieu

Seven years ago, I made one of the most intimidating decisions of my life. During the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, I voluntarily left the security of my business development position with a construction management firm to start Golden Egg Concepts, a marketing communications firm focused on clients in the built environment. I traded the comforts of a steady paycheck and a ‘9 to 5’ schedule for something completely unfamiliar.

A quick Google search will turn up countless studies and published explanations as to the reasons behind small businesses succeeding or failing. As the founder and owner of my own consulting firm, I thought it would worthy to memorialize my own guiding principles.

By definition, seven is a lucky number. But where I stand today isn’t about luck (well, maybe a little).

My success is due to three important components:  a loyal base of clients, a powerful network of partners, and an unwavering concentration in the AEC industry.

A loyal base of clients: I am grateful for every project I undertake – from small, hourly assignments to larger, multi-phase initiatives.

A powerful network of partners: I appreciate the intimate group of trusted business partners that work together with me to ensure that my clients’ needs are satisfied every day of the week.

An unwavering concentration in the AEC industry: Contrary to the advice I received when starting my business, my niche focus on marketing for architects, engineers, contractors and related firms is what helped my business grow.

Thank you one and all for your continued support.  I wouldn’t be here without you.
